What are we Doing?
The Township of Langley is developing a Community Energy and Emissions Plan (CEEP) to clarify the community desire for action, understand specific community concerns, and identify possible actions to reduce energy and GHG emissions across the community. This is the first of many steps in addressing our community’s impact on climate change.
The Township is taking a collaborative approach to create the CEEP. We are inviting municipal staff, key stakeholders, and the general public to participate and contribute their ideas during the plan development process. The intent is to create a CEEP with broad community support that reflects the community’s expressed values, needs, and aspirations.
Key events:
- Township of Langley staff workshop on opportunities and challenges to reduce GHG emissions and define short and long term goals for the plan
- stakeholder advisory committee meetings
- community workshop to learn more about the CEEP, discuss opportunities and challenges to reduce GHG emissions, and define short and long term goals for the plan
- project team meetings to set emission targets and recommend policy and actions
- community open house to review the draft plan
- project website to gather ideas to reduce energy and GHG emissions in Langley
What will be in the Plan?
The CEEP will:
- define short and long term goals for energy use, supply, and GHG emissions
- set community GHG reduction targets to measure the Township’s progress toward attaining its goals
- identify actions to achieve the GHG reduction targets
- outline an implementation strategy to ensure the plan is a success
